Africa AIDS Response

Africa AIDS Response is a program of the Portland-Mutare Sister City Association, developed to support urgent and ongoing grassroots AIDS prevention and care efforts in Portland’s Sister City of Mutare, Zimbabwe.

In Zimbabwe alone, more than fifteen people die from AIDS every hour—eighty thousand deaths per year. There are one million children that have been orphaned due to this epidemic.

Through the power of local action and the generosity of global citizens, Africa AIDS Response directly supports local AIDS agencies, projects and health clinics; raises awareness of the epidemic and the efforts of African people to slow the disease and manage its consequences; fosters an exchange between local HIV/AIDS workers; and serves as a model for citizen/city involvement to address the epidemic on a grassroots level.
