A Hopeful Birth – Protecting a New Generation against HIV/AIDS

Offer the gift of protection to a pregnant woman in the rural area of Mutare, Zimbabwe. Provide emergency HIV/AIDS testing and medication to help reduce the risk of transmission to her baby.

An estimated one in three adults in Mutare is HIV positive. Most pregnant women do not receive any prenatal care and do not know if they are HIV positive. A rapid test can determine her status, and if she is positive, immediate medication can significantly reduce the likelihood of transmission to her newborn, from a 20 to 40 percent chance without intervention to a 2 to 10 percent chance with intervention.

Your gift will support Africa AIDS Response in providing an emergency HIV/AIDS test and medication to a pregnant woman and her newborn. If her test is negative, the treatment will be provided to another woman, helping to protect future generations and offering hope for the whole community.
