Birth Right - For a Tibetan Mother and Child

Help ensure a safe and happy birth for a mother in Tibet. A simple birth kit, distributed by One H.E.A.R.T.’s medical staff, can save the lives of mothers and babies with no access to health care.

Tibet is one of the few societies in the world that lacks a birth attendant tradition. Most rural women deliver alone in unsanitary conditions. One out of every 33 Tibetan women dies during childbirth and one out of every 10 babies dies within the first month of life. You can prevent this tragedy by giving a pregnant woman prenatal vitamins, essential medications, and clean clothing for her newborn baby.

Founded at the request of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, One H.E.A.R.T. integrates Western medicine with Tibetan beliefs, training birth attendants and providing needed supplies at the village level.

One H.E.A.R.T. works to save mothers’ and babies’ lives, while promoting the health and welfare of the Tibetan people and culture.
