A Gift for New York City: Protecting the Historic Hudson River
Preserve the Hudson River and protect its precious inhabitants by supporting
Riverkeeper’s patrol boat in collecting water samples as scientific evidence of
pollution levels. Under the leadership of Hudson Riverkeeper Alex Matthiessen
and Chief Prosecuting Attorney Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. hundreds of polluters
have already been brought to justice.
Navigated by Henry Hudson nearly four centuries ago, the Hudson River is home
to diverse and complex wildlife, from blue crab to snapping turtles to harbor
seals, and is a nourishing nursery for fish throughout the North Atlantic.
Increasing pollution and neglect in the past few decades threaten the river and
these fragile ecosystems. The Riverkeeper patrol boat travels the full length
of the Hudson River including New York Harbor and the surrounding New York
Waterways.
Your gift covers three miles of operation for the patrol boat—approximately
the distance between the legendary Brooklyn Bridge and the United Nations.
These New York landmarks represent both the local and global impacts of
preventing harmful pollution, restoring a healthy home for its indigenous
inhabitants and maintaining a vibrant and historic Hudson River for relaxation
and reflection for generations to come.
