The Batonga Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to empower and equip the hardest-to-reach adolescent girls and young women in Benin with the knowledge and skills they need to be agents of change in their own lives and communities.
Founded by Grammy Award-winner Angelique Kidjo, Batonga’s goal is to identify and empower Benin's young women and girls most in need: the young mothers, those married while still children, those living without parents, those out of school and those who have never been to school. Batonga goes door-to-door to collect granular information on each community's demographics so that it can truly see the full universe of women and girls and ensure no one is left behind. Once identified, Batonga connects young women to girls clubs, girl-only safe spaces that equip them with social capital, financial literacy, and life skills to create impactful change in their communities.
The Batonga Gift of Compassion provides one young woman in Benin access to a Girls Club where she will have the opportunity to connect with peers and learn new life-changing skills that will allow her to start a small business and become an agent of change in her community.
